EAFF East Asian Cup 2013 Preliminary Competition (Round 2) got into the second match day with DPR Korea coming up against Guam. The Koreans continued their strong-showing in the tournament by defeating a resilient Guam side 5-0.

DPR Korea started the game in a positive manner and almost opened the score on the 13th minute when An Il-bom burst through the left flank and finished off with a shot that went just wide off the Guam post.

Guam proved to be no walk-over and almost sneaked in the first goal on the 19th minute when Elias Merfalen took advantage of a sloppy Korean back-pass and quickly unleashed a shot, only to see his attempt sailed high over the DRP Korea crossbar.

DPR Korea broke the game loose on the 25th minute by scoring the first goal of the game. An Il-bom capitalized on a goal-mouth scramble in front of the Guam goal and directed the ball into the opposing net, putting the Koreans in front.

The Koreans continued to press for the next goal and was rewarded on the 33rd minute when Kang Kuk-chol’s long ball found teammate Ri Myong-jun. Ri slipped up in the process yet still managed to gather his footing and delivered the ball into the Guam net, giving his side a two-goal lead.

DPR Korea came close to expanding their lead on the 53rd minute when An Il-bom spun off from two Guam defenders and found himself facing against the opposing goalkeeper. Unfortunately for DPR Korea, the striker’s shot drifted slowly past the Guam goal post and went harmlessly out of play.

The Koreans finally got the third goal that they were looking for on the 59th minute, when Ri Myong-jun found himself on the receiving end of a defense-splitting pass from a fellow teammate. Ri utilized his speed and fired the ball past Guam goalkeeper Doug Herrick, giving DPR Korea a 3-0 lead.

DPR Korea had numerous chances to add to their lead, only to be denied time and time again by the heroics of Guam goalkeeper Doug Herrick.

The Koreans got their fourth goal on the 82nd minute when they stole the ball from Guam in midfield, which resulted in Pak Nam-chol being sent behind the Guam defense. The Korean danger-man did not disappoint by rounding Guam keeper Doug Herrick and then coolly slotting the ball into the net.

DPR Korea added one more goal before the end of the game with Pak Nam-chol waltzed through the Guam defense before directing a pass to Jong Il-gwan, allowing the latter to tap home the ball. DPR Korea enjoying a lead of 5-0.

Both sides played out the match with the score unchanged, as DPR Korea took home the victory by overpowering Guam 5-0.
