Sports Contest of Foreign Diplomats in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) — A sports contest of foreign diplomats to the DPRK took place at the Rungna People’s Sports Park here on September 25-29.
They competed in the football, volleyball and basketball events, divided into teams of the Chinese embassy, the Russian embassy, the embassies of Asian countries, the embassies of Middle East, African and Latin American countries, the missions of UN organizations and the embassies and cooperation offices of European countries.
Present to watch the contest were Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun and officials concerned of the DPRK, ambassadors of different countries and representatives of international organizations, family members of embassy officials and sports fans.
Russian and Chinese embassy teams and the UN organizations team advanced into the finals of the contest on Sept. 29, through preliminaries and semifinals.
The Russian team won in the football event, the UN team in volleyball and the Chinese team in basketball.
There were also amusement games, divided into Hong (red) and Chong (blue) teams, which added to the atmosphere of the contest.
Prizes were awarded to the successful teams and individuals.
After the contest there was a traditional food show of diplomats’ families at the park, aimed to deepen friendship among countries.
Jong Ho Bom, an official of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, told KCNA:
This is the first time to have the sports contest of diplomats here. The contest offered a good opportunity for the diplomats, whose mission is to promote friendship and solidarity among countries and nations, to make big success in their work in good health.
