DPR Korea and Chinese Taipei squared off in the EAFF East Asian Cup 2013 Preliminary Competition (Round 2). The Koreans put on a football clinic on the occasion and comfortably beating Chinese Taipei 6-1.

DPR Korea displayed the skills, work-rate and determination that got them to the 2010 South Africa World Cup Finals right from the first whistle of the game, forcing Chinese Taipei to rely mostly on rare counter-attacks.

The always-threatening Pak Nam-chol supplied most of the ammunition for DPR Korea when his cross on the 22nd minute was taken down and then quickly-fired by Choe Myong-ho. The shot was deflected from the intended target and turned into a corner kick.

The Koreans took the lead on the 27th minute when a defense-splitting pass sent An Il-bom behind the Chinese Taipei defenders. The DPR Korean forward kept his nerve, slotted the ball past the Chinese Taipei keeper and put his side ahead in the game. DPR Korea leading the game 1-0.

DPR Korea extended their lead on the 34th minute when Pak Song-chol’s long-range missile was deflected off a Chinese Taipei player and ricocheted into the net, putting his side further ahead with a 2-0 lead.

The Koreans made it 3-0 on the 42nd minute when Ri Kwang-hyok connected with a centering pass and headed home the ball. DPR Korea was very much in control with the game.

DPR Korea continued to show their desire for the next goal. On the 48th minute, Jon Kwang-Ik majestically danced through two Chinese Taipei defenders and sent in a dangerous ball into the Chinese Taipei danger area. Only the Chinese Taipei goal post managed to deny Jong Il-gwan’s ensuing shot as the game remained 3-0.

The Koreans got their 4th goal on the 65th minute when Jon Kwang-Ik whipped in a cross that found the unstoppable Pak Nam-chol. Pak wasted no time in controlling the ball and simply fired an acrobatic shot that went straight into the Chinese Taipei net.

DPR Korea got their next goal shortly afterwards when An Il-bom provided a carving pass that was converted by Ri Myong-jun. The Koreans was enjoying a 5-0 lead.

Chinese Taipei showed off some tremendous fighting spirit and never gave up. They were finally rewarded on the 79th minute when striker Chen Hao-wei shook off several Korean defenders with a change of pace and fired a low shot that sneaked past the DPR Korea goalkeeper, pulling one goal back for Chinese Taipei.

Ri Myong-jun added one more goal in the closing minutes for DPR Korea and the score remained 6-1 for the rest of the game, with DPR Korea dishing out a convincing victory to Chinese Taipei.
