Final Game of Soccer Tournament for Torch Cup Held

Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) — A final game of the soccer tournament for torch cup was held at the Yanggakdo Football Stadium on Thursday, the Youth Day.
Among the spectators were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the C.C., the Workers’ Party of Korea, Vice-Premier Kim Yong Jin, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Yong Hun, Chairman of the C.C., the youth league Jon Yong Nam, officials of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, officials concerned, youth and students and Pyongyang citizens.
The final game took place between the April 25 Team and the Hwaebul Team.
The April 25 Team beat its rival 1:0.
The cup and medals were awarded to the April 25 Team.

Embajador norcoreano “sueña” con un futbolista de su país en la Liga española

Madrid, 19 ago (EFE).- El embajador de Corea del Norte en España, Kim Hyok Chol, alberga la esperanza de que pronto haya un jugador de fútbol de su país en la Primera División del fútbol español.

Kim, que lleva seis meses en España y es el primer embajador de su país en Madrid, expresó este martes estos deseos en una entrevista con Efe en la que aseguró que, en este periodo, ha “aprendido que el fútbol es un nexo de unión entre los españoles” y da prestigio a un país.

El diplomático explicó que las autoridades de su país enviaron el pasado año a un grupo de estudiantes norcoreanos para que se formaran en esta disciplina deportiva en Barcelona y tratará de repetir la experiencia este año.

“Mientras esté en Madrid dedicaré todo mi esfuerzo para lograr que un niño norcoreano pueda jugar en un equipo español”, subrayó.

Para el diplomático, el deporte y la cultura pueden convertirse en los sectores fundamentales que ayuden a establecer lazos entre dos países que “mantienen unas buenas relaciones”, pero deben mejorar en estos ámbitos y en sus intercambios económicos.

Kim considera además que el Gobierno de Pyongyang “puede aprender mucho de la vanguardia y el desarrollo turístico” de España, la tercera nación más visitada del mundo, para impulsar este sector en su país.

Corea del Norte busca desarrollar sus infraestructuras turísticas y demostrar que el país, tachado de hermético en Occidente, está “abierto al mundo”, agregó el embajador, quien también considera que los sectores energético y de la construcción pueden contribuir a acercar a los dos Estados.

En opinión del embajador, incluso la geografía juega a favor de las relaciones bilaterales, ya que “el hecho de ser dos naciones peninsulares, a pesar de estar en extremos del continente, hace que tengamos un carácter similar como pueblo”, precisó.

FIFA Fitness Course Held in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) — A FIFA Fitness Course was held in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, on Aug. 19-23.
Attending the course divided into theoretical and practical sections were coaches and instructors from sports teams and juvenile sports schools across the country.
The course focused on such matters as players’ fitness and role of coaches. What caught the participants’ eyes were various methods of physical training in a small ground.
Kim Chang Hyok, an instructor of Pyongyang International Football School, told KCNA that the course helped him have a good understanding of new fitness methods. I will make the best use of these training methods in the practical education of students, he added.
The course was officiated by Jones Mark Sean, an Australian lecturer of FIFA.
