Committee Vows to Hold Inter-Korean Workers’ Football Match

A South Korean committee that hopes to promote a football match between laborers from the two Koreas has vowed to hold the game this year.

The committee held a meeting in Seoul on Monday and stressed the need to improve inter-Korean relations and open channels of dialogue and cooperation between the two Koreas. The committee said this should start by having workers meet on the football pitch, especially as 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of two Koreas’ liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

The committee said it will open the South-North match on May 1, or May Day.

Bangkok: DPR Korea edged Thailand on goal difference to claim their AFC U-23 Championship 2016 ticket following the sides’ 0-0 qualifying draw at the Rajamangala Stadium on Tuesday.
DPR Korea opened their Group G campaign with a 4-0 win over the Philippines before going on to beat Cambodia 4-1, while hosts Thailand also went into the Group G crunch game against the North Koreans boasting earlier wins over Cambodia and the Philippines.
Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams from all groups will join hosts Qatar at the AFC U-23 Championship 2016, with January’s 16-team competition also serving as Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio.
The final group winner and the complete line up of best second-place finishers will only be confirmed after the conclusion of Group B of the qualifiers, which features Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan as well as hosts Pakistan.
Group B was scheduled to take place in Lahore at Lahore’s Punjab Stadium from March 23 to 31 has been postponed due to security concerns following the recent troubles in the Youhanabad area of the city.
A decision on an alternative venue and schedule for Group B will be announced in due course.

U23: RPDC – Cambogia 4-1

Bangkok: DPR Korea clinched their second AFC U-23 Championship 2016 qualifying win as they defeated Cambodia 4-1 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand on Sunday.
Two goals in both halves of the Group G game made sure the North Koreans claimed their second three points after downing the Philippines 4-0 in their campaign opener two days earlier.
Ho Myong-chol opened Korea’s book with a 17th minute goal before Kim Ju-song doubled the advantage on 38 minutes.
Substitute Jo Kwang, who came on to replace Ho on 36 minutes, made an impact with his goal 20 minutes later, while skipper Jang Kuk-chol took it up to 4-0 with a 69th minute goal. Sary Matnorotin registered Cambodia’s consolation goal on 84 minutes.
With six points behind them, Ra Pong-gi’s side will take on Thailand while the Cambodians, led by South Korean coach Lee Tae-hoon, will handle the Philippines in the group’s last game on Tuesday.

Workshop for Participants in 7th National Conference of Sportspeople Held

Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) — A workshop for the participants in the 7th National Conference of Sportspeople took place in Pyongyang Friday.
It dealt with important issues arising in defending generation after generation the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il for the development of the country’s sports and realizing the grandiose plan for building a sports power as early as possible.
It paid attention to the main content of supreme leader Kim Jong Un’s work “Let Us Usher In a New Heyday of Building a Sports Power in the Revolutionary Spirit of Paektu”.
Also stressed there were important issues arising in firmly defending the idea of Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un on attaching importance to the sports and their immortal leadership exploits for sports and further glorifying them.
The participants were called on to thoroughly embody the principle of ideological, persevering, speed and technical campaign and employ Korean-style tactics in all games.
The workshop also stressed the issues of rapidly developing the sports technique of the country by putting the sports on a scientific basis.

Demonstration Football Game Entertains Participants in 7th National Conference of Sportspeople

Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) — Famous men’s football teams showed a demonstration game at Kim Il Sung Stadium Thursday as a commemoration of the 7th National Conference of Sportspeople.
Watching it were members of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, participants in the conference, officials in the field of sports and sportspersons, officers and men of the Korean People’s Army and the Korean People’s Internal Security Forces, youth and students and other people in Pyongyang.
The game took place between the April 25 Team the Hwaebul Team.
The two teams traded attacks and counterattacks in the game that drew 5:5. In the 11-meter kicks that followed the Hoebul team won 11:10 whose victory was mainly attributable to its goalkeeper who kicked back balls with correct judgment and agile movement.

Bangkok (www.the-afc.com): DPR Korea started their AFC U-23 Championship 2016 qualifying campaign with a 4-0 win over the Philippines at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand on Friday.
Ra Pong-gi’s side led the match 2-0 at the break before two substitutes added two more goals after the interval in the Group G game.
Ri Hyong-jin opened the scoring on 17 minutes before So Kyong-jin doubled the lead with a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time.
Jang Ok-chol, who came off the bench to replace Ho Myong-chol on 57 minutes, made it 3-0 five minutes later.
Pak Hyon-il, substitute for Mun Hyok on 14 minutes, scored the North Koreans’ fourth and final goal on 80 minutes.
DPR Korea will next play Cambodia while the Jim Fraser-led Philippines will take on hosts Thailand on Sunday.

Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) — The 7th National Conference of Sportspersons was held at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
Present there were members of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, chairpersons of the provincial, city and county physical culture and sports guidance commissions, officials of sports guidance organs at all levels, sports units and units supporting sports field, officials concerned, players, coaches, teachers and researchers who set an example in carrying out the party’s sports policy and members of the sports delegation of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.

The history of the sports development of Juche Korea has been the one of indefatigable devotion and efforts made by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il who put forward the sports as an important work in demonstrating the national power and preparing all the people for labor and defence and paid deep attention to the sports development all their lives.
The President gave an origin to building the people’s sports and provided the glorious tradition of Juche-oriented sports amid the flame of the anti-Japanese revolution and formed the Sports Union of north Korea on Nov. 1, Juche 34 (1945), opening up the bright future of sports of new Korea.
Kim Jong Il put forward the idea of attaching importance to sports as the consistent policy of our party and published many famous works, providing important guidelines for sports development.
He advanced the idea of Songun sports for the first time in history and energetically led the overall sports including mass sports, development of sports technique and the building of sports facilities to bring about a revolutionary turn, thereby ushering in a heyday of sports development.
The DPRK’s sports have now greeted the greatest heyday of their development under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un.
He gave famous formulation that when sports have become popular and they are made an inseparable part of the daily life enjoyed by all the people to stir up the whole country with the hot wind of sports, and when sportspersons win titles in international games to demonstrate the dignity and might of Songun Korea, that is precisely the sporting power. This provided a clear goal and a shortcut to outpacing the other countries in sports with the idea of attaching importance to the sports as the strategic line of building a highly civilized socialist nation.
