Hamhung, August 11 (KCNA) — A national university students sports contest for September 5 Prize opened with due ceremony in Hamhung, South Hamgyong Province on Monday.
It will bring together excellent players selected from universities and colleges throughout the country. They will compete in the defence sports, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and other sports events.
Present at the opening ceremony were Thae Jong Su, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, officials concerned, and university and college students in the province.
Jon Yong Nam, chairman of the Central Committee of the youth league, made an opening address.
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) — A soccer tournament for torch cup began on the occasion of the Youth Day. It will last till August 28.
It brought together 13 men’s soccer teams.
They are divided into two groups to play group league matches.
There were matches between the Ryongaksan Team and the Kwanmobong Team, between the Wolmido Team and the Amnokgang Team and between the Team of the Ministry of Light Industry and the Hwaebul Team at Kim Il Sung Stadium on Sunday.
In the first-day matches, the Ryongaksan Team beat the Kwanmobong Team 3:2, the Hwaebul Team trounced the Team of the Ministry of Light Industry 3:0 and the Wolmido Team and the Amnokgang Team drew 1:1.

More Teams Qualified for Premier League Matches in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 24 (KCNA) — Two men’s football teams are qualified for this year’s premier league matches in the DPRK.
An official concerned of the DPRK Football Association, told KCNA:
Kwanmobong and Ponghwasan teams were additionally qualified for the league matches. As a result, 14 teams would take part in 6 rounds of whole or group league matches from March to late October Juche 103 (2014) with the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games as the first round.
The increased number of matches will make each team fully display their abilities.
Premier league matches are expected to be held in the spotlight of many working people and football fans.
Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) — Men’s and women’s premier soccer league matches took place in Pyongyang in October as part of the DPRK Championships.
Competing in the men’s league were ten teams including April 25, Hwaebul and Mangyongbong and in the women’s league 12 teams including April 25, Amnokgang and Myohyangsan.
The titles in the league matches were taken by men and women of the April 25 team, with results of five wins, three draws and one defeat in nine matches for the men’s event and nine wins and two draws in eleven matches for the women’s event.
Mangyongbong and Amnokgang came second in men’s and women’s events respectively, while Hwaebul and Myohyangsan third.
The matches were held on a round-robin basis, and a total of 299 goals were made in 45 men’s and 66 women’s matches, an average of 2.6 scores per match.
So Hyon Uk and Kwon Song Hwa of April 25 were selected to be best man and woman players, O Jin Hyok of Hwaebul and Ra Un Sim of Amnokgang top scorers and Ri Kang of April 25 and Choe Kum Ju of Ponghwasan best goal-keepers. And the prize of morality went to the men’s team of Mangyongbong and the women’s team of Kalmaegi.
The recent league matches marked an important occasion in further improving each team’s technique and tactics.
