2014 Provincial Mass Sports Contest Opens

Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) — The 2014 provincial mass sports contest opened here on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
The contest brought together masses of various circles including workers, peasants, office workers, school youth and children, kindergarteners and housewives, and sports persons selected in Pyongyang and provinces (cities under central authority).
They will compete in mass sports and amusement games.
An opening ceremony took place at the Kim Il Sung Stadium on Wednesday.
Present there were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK who is chairman of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, officials concerned, players and cheer-leading squad members from provinces, Pyongyangites, youth and students.
Choe Ryong Hae made an opening address.
He said Marshal Kim Jong Un has taken a series of state measures to put the country’s sports on a mass basis, thus making sure that the whole country is being swept by a hot wind of sports.
He underlined the need for all the players to display at each game their high technique and teamwork ability and noble moral traits and thus contribute to the development of the country’s sports.
The ceremony was followed by a junior women’s football match between South Hamgyong Province and Rason City and athletic events.
