Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) — There took place football matches of workers in the north and the south for national reconciliation, unity, peace and reunification at May Day Stadium on Thursday.
Among the spectators were Kim Yong Dae, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly and chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party who doubles as chairman of the National Reconciliation Council; Ju Yong Gil, chairman of the C.C., the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea; Jon Yong Nam, chairman of the C.C., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League: Ri Myong Gil, chairman of the C.C., the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea: Kim Jong Sun, chairwoman of the C.C., the Democratic Women’s Union of Korea: Kim Wan Su, chairman of the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration; Choe Jin Su, chairman of the North Headquarters of the Pan-National Alliance for Korea’s Reunification; officials concerned and working people of various circles.
Also present there were members of the football delegation of south Korean workers for reunification led by Kim Tong Man, chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of south Korea, and Choe Jong Jin, chief vice-chairman of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, overseas compatriots and foreigners.
Ju Yong Gil, Kim Tong Man and Choe Jong Jin said that these matches will mark a great stride forward for the workers in realizing their will for peaceful reunification enshrined in the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, adding that the workers who are playing a locomotive role in the drive for realizing the country’s reunification are indeed the eldest son of the fellow countrymen.
The football matches were held between the Capital City Construction team of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the joint team of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and between the Tobacco joint team of GFTUK and the joint team of the Federation of Trade Unions of south Korea.
The Capital City Construction team and the Tobacco joint team won the matches.
